【TCS Experiential Learning Friday| Critical Thinking & Debate in a Model Canadian Parliament!】

Updated: Mar 25

In the Canadian Parliamentary Experiential Learning Class #模擬加拿大國會, students spent seven days role-playing as Members of Parliament (MPs), each representing a real Canadian town or city. Tasked with drafting a $500 million federal budget, they researched real-world government policies, negotiated funding priorities, and followed authentic parliamentary procedures. Working in teams, they created detailed budget proposals with charts, images, and persuasive justifications.

The project culminated in a half-day parliamentary debate, where students engaged in public speaking, critical thinking, and negotiation, using facts, humor, and last-minute deals to argue their positions. They enjoyed it so much that they voted to extend the debate three times into their lunch hour! Ultimately, Prime Minister Sophie secured majority support from multiple parties to pass the budget.

Through this project-based learning experience, students gained a deep understanding of how laws are made, government operations, and political decision-making, while building essential skills in debate, persuasive writing, financial literacy, and teamwork.
