Student Competencies

At TCS, our core competencies promote holistic growth through meaningful action, collaboration, and reflection. We focus on developing key areas such as Communication, Personal and Social Responsibility, Critical and Creative Thinking, and Computational Thinking. Our cross-curricular Learning approach encourages students to integrate knowledge across subjects while fostering self-awareness and empathy through Mindfulness. By blending academic rigour with practical applications, we equip students with the skills and mindsets needed to thrive in a complex, interconnected world.

Communication and Collaboration

The Communication competency encompasses the knowledge, skills, processes and dispositions we associate with interactions with others. Through their communication, students acquire, develop and transform ideas and information, and make connections with others to share their ideas, express their individuality, further their learning, and get things done.

Personal and Social

The Personal and Social competency is the set of abilities that relate to students' identity in the world, both as individuals and as members of their community and society. Personal and social competency encompasses what students need to thrive as individuals, to understand and care about themselves and others, and to find and achieve their purposes in the world.

Critical & Creative Thinking

The Thinking competency encompasses the knowledge, skills and processes we associate with intellectual development. It is through their competency as thinkers that students take subject-specific concepts and content and transform them into a new understanding.

Computational Thinking

Computational thinking is a skill set for solving complex problems, a way to learn topics in many disciplines, and a necessity for fully participating in a computational world. At TCS, students are provided many opportunities to develop the competencies required to use current and emerging technologies effectively in all aspects of their learning and life.

Cross-Curricular Learning

Both our middle and high school programs are founded on a cross-curricular model that stresses cross-discipline integration. And our partnership with the National Taiwan Normal University team allows us to offer multi-level learning courses each Friday, focusing on cross-domain practice, experience, cooperation, and communication.

Mindfulness

At TCS, Mindfulness practices help students cultivate attention, including self-awareness and self-knowledge of thoughts, feelings, sensations, and how they affect one’s actions. Mindfulness develops students' compassion and empathy and leads to increased well-being, positive emotion, friendship, and improved self-regulation.
